Uber starts road testing its first driverless car in Pittsburgh

Uber shared on Thursday that it had begun its driverless car tests in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The test car which is from Uber’s Advanced Technologies Center (ATC) is a Hybrid Ford Fusion.

Besides testing the self-driving capabilities, the car is also collecting mapping data. The hybrid Ford Fusion is equipped with a variety of sensors including radars, laser scanners, and high resolution cameras for mapping details of the environment. Uber says its goal for developing self-driving cars is to “improve quality of life for people around the world.” Uber believes that this technology will not only save millions of lives in the future but will also improve transportation for everyone.
