Facebook has announced the launch of a new app Events from Facebook, a standalone app will allow event seekers to directly access the “Events” feature of Facebook.
The feature currently has over 100 million daily users who use it find out new events in their vicinity and to manage their events.
“Today we’re announcing Events from Facebook, a new app we designed for event seekers who are passionate about keeping up with nearby events and finding things to do with their friends. Whether you’re looking for something to attend this weekend or just wondering what’s happening in your area, Events will help get you there.” said Facebook in its announcement.
The app has been launched for the iOS system first with the Android one soon to follow.
Under the new app, users will be able to see a feed of events that are being followed or created by the users’ Facebook network. It will also show new events announcements or fresh posts from events already followed by the user. Events will also help users manage the events they are going to via its calendar feature. Users can also add their phone calendar to the app, allowing them to compare their schedule.
For those looking to find things to do, they can scroll through recommendations based on “time, location and your interests.” An interactive map will pop out that can help the user in identifying locations offering events that can be visited.
All actions taken on the app will be viewable on Facebook allowing friends to see the user’s interests and scheduled events.
“The core thesis behind this app is that if we build something for the people really eager to discover events, people will have a good time,” said Facebook Events product manager Aditya Koolwal.
